Museum of Jewish Heritage

History Museum · New York, New York

New York's Holocaust museum and a living memorial, opened 1997 in a six-sided building at the southern tip of Battery Park City — the six sides for the six million, and the tiered roof echoing the Star of David. ⚠ IT DELIBERATELY DOES NOT BEGIN WITH THE HOLOCAUST. The permanent exhibition starts with Jewish life before it and ends with renewal after it, which is the argument the building was designed to make.
