Museum of Native American History

A Privately Founded Museum In Bentonville Holding Several Thousand Native American Artefacts Spanning The Paleo Indian Period To The Historic Era, Organised By Period And Open Free Of Charge. · Bentonville, Arkansas

The Museum of Native American History is a private collection in Bentonville that is free to walk into, which is the first surprise, and considerably better than a town this size has any right to, which is the second. It is arranged chronologically through five periods from Paleo-Indian to historic, with Clovis points, Mississippian pottery, effigy vessels and a mastodon skeleton as the headline pieces, and an audio guide narrated by an Arkansas Cherokee voice. It was founded by a collector of Cherokee descent and it covers the whole continent rather than only the mid-South. In a town better known for Crystal Bridges and mountain biking, it is the quietest good hour available.

202 SW O Street, Bentonville, Arkansas, 72712, United States

Open Monday to Saturday on daytime hours in most seasons, closed Sundays and on major holidays. Admission is free and an audio guide is provided without charge. Group visits are arranged in advance. Hours have varied for a small privately funded institution, so confirm before travelling.
