Museum of Science and Industry

Science Museum · Chicago, Illinois

The largest science museum in the Western Hemisphere, opened in 1933 in the only building left standing from the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition — the Palace of Fine Arts, rebuilt in stone. Formally renamed the Kenneth C. Griffin Museum of Science and Industry after a naming gift, it is still signposted, spoken of and searched for as MSI. Its collection is full-size rather than scaled: a captured German submarine, a real coal mine shaft, a streamlined 1934 train and a Boeing 727 hung from the balcony.

5700 South DuSable Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, Illinois, 60637, United States

Generally daily 9:30 AM - 4 PM, longer in summer and over the winter holidays. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
