Museum of South Texas History

History Museum · Edinburg, Texas

The regional museum for the lower Rio Grande Valley, built around the 1910 Hidalgo County jail in Edinburg and expanded into a substantial modern institution that tells the borderland story from prehistory through Spanish colonisation, the Mexican War, ranching and the railroad. The old jail cells and the gallows are still there, inside the museum.

⚠ HOURS AND ADMISSION ARE NOT STATED HERE — I could not verify them. Check mosthistory.org before travelling; regional museums here commonly close Mondays. ⚠ Ask about reciprocal membership from other institutions and about community access schemes, both of which Valley museums often run without advertising. The preserved 1910 Hidalgo County jail cells and gallows are inside the building.
