Museum of the American Revolution
History Museum · Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
A museum that opened in 2017 two blocks from Independence Hall, built around a single object: the canvas marquee George Washington used as his sleeping and office tent through most of the war, the only one that survives, shown at the end of a short theatre presentation in which the walls lift away and the tent is simply there. The rest of the building tells the Revolution as a contested and unfinished argument, with substantial attention to the enslaved people, Native nations and loyalists whom the older telling left out.
101 South Third Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19106, United States
Open daily, generally 10 AM to 5 PM, with closure on a small number of major holidays. Washington's headquarters tent is shown in a timed presentation running through the day, included with admission. Tickets are cheaper online.
