Museum of the Mountain Man
Sublette County Historical Society Museum · Pinedale, Wyoming
A museum in Pinedale about the Rocky Mountain fur trade of the 1820s to 1840s — the trappers, traders and Native peoples who met at the summer rendezvous, several of which were held on the Green River near here. Exhibits cover trade goods, trapping, firearms and the history of Sublette County, and each July the town stages the Green River Rendezvous pageant. It opened in 1990 on a hill in Pinedale, close to where trappers, traders and tribes met for several summer rendezvous in the 1830s. The collection includes a rifle linked to Jim Bridger and many traps, trade goods and beaver pelts. Green River Rendezvous Days are held in town in July, with a pageant re-creating the old gatherings. The museum is a good first stop before a Wind River Range trip.
