Museum of the Moving Image
Specialty Museum · Astoria, New York
The only museum in the United States devoted to the art, history, technique and technology of film, television and digital media — on the KAUFMAN ASTORIA STUDIOS lot in Queens, in a 1920 building from the Paramount era when Astoria, not Hollywood, was the centre of American film production. Its collection runs to some 130,000 objects and it holds the permanent JIM HENSON EXHIBITION.
36-01 35th Avenue, Astoria, New York, 11106, United States
⚠ CLOSED MONDAYS AND TUESDAYS, historically — check movingimage.org before travelling. Generally open Wednesday to Sunday on a daytime schedule with later hours on some evenings for screenings. ⚠ FREE ADMISSION HAS RUN HISTORICALLY ON FRIDAY AFTERNOONS; the mechanism has changed and should be confirmed. ⚠ FILM SCREENINGS IN THE REDSTONE THEATER ARE OFTEN TICKETED SEPARATELY from museum admission — check the calendar, because the repertory and director-talk programme is arguably better than the galleries. ⚠ HOURS AND PRICES NOT VERIFIED FOR THIS FILE.
