Muskegon State Park
Michigan State Park · North Muskegon, Michigan
Muskegon State Park occupies a strip of land at North Muskegon between Lake Michigan and Muskegon Lake, with a long Lake Michigan beach backed by forested dunes, a calmer lake shore on the inland side, a channel for boats and freighters, and campgrounds in both settings. Trails climb the dunes to viewpoints, and a winter sports complex in the park is known for a public luge track and other cold-weather activities. The park suits families, beachgoers, hikers and winter visitors. In Muskegon itself you can visit the USS Silversides submarine museum and the LST 393 museum; they are nearby, not in the park. The South Pierhead Light is a short drive away. Be honest: the beach is busy in July, the dune trails are steep, and the luge needs checking first. A Recreation Passport is required for every vehicle, and you should confirm current park rules, camping dates and winter sports hours before you go.

The park is open year-round, with day use generally from about 8 in the morning until 10 at night and campers following their own arrival schedule. Summer is the main season for the beach and campgrounds, which run from spring to fall. In winter the park is used for cross-country skiing, skating and the luge track at the winter sports complex, which runs on its own schedule and depends on cold weather, so confirm days, hours, ticket rules and any reservation requirement with the complex before you plan a trip. Lake Michigan beaches can have rough water and high waves in autumn, and some facilities reduce service after the summer season.
