Mütter Museum
Specialty Museum · Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The medical museum of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, founded on a teaching collection given by the surgeon Thomas Dent Mütter in 1858 and displayed since in walnut cases under low light, essentially as a nineteenth-century cabinet. It holds preserved anatomical specimens, skeletons, surgical instruments and the objects doctors removed from people, and it is the best-known museum of its kind in the world. It is also, by some distance, the most difficult building in Philadelphia to bring the wrong person to.
