A National Historic Site Of Canada. A Flat 12 Km Walk Or Bike Ride With Views Of Kelowna And The Lake. Open In The Snow Free Season. · Kelowna, British Columbia
Myra Canyon is a stretch of the old Kettle Valley Railway in the hills above Kelowna, where a flat gravel trail crosses eighteen wooden trestles and passes through two tunnels. The line was built in the early 1910s, and the trestles were partly burned in 2003 during the Okanagan Mountain Park fire, then rebuilt. It is a National Historic Site of Canada. The ride or walk follows a high canyon side with views over Kelowna and Okanagan Lake, and the grade is so gentle that families and casual cyclists manage it easily. It suits anyone who wants a scenic outing of a few hours rather than a hard hike. It is open in the snow-free season, usually late spring to autumn. Expect strong sun, wind, and some trestles with railings only. Rented bikes come from several Kelowna outfits. Confirm parking fees and trail conditions before you go. Plan for a morning start, plenty of water and a light layer, because the canyon side has little shade.
Trail of restored railway trestles and tunnels on the Kettle Valley Rail Trail in the hills above Kelowna, reached by a forest road and car park, a flat path on a high canyon side, Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada
Myra Canyon is a public trail with no gate or ticket booth, and it is open in the snow-free season, usually from late spring to autumn. Access depends on the forest road and the weather: snow, ice, wildfire smoke or fire restrictions can close the road or the trail, and trestle repairs can close a section for a time. There is no fixed opening time, but go in daylight and allow time to return before dark. Bike rental and shuttle services in Kelowna keep their own hours and are seasonal, so confirm with the outfit you plan to use. Check current conditions before driving up the forest road.
