Nagoya Port Aquarium is a large harbourside aquarium in the busy port district of Nagoya, in Aichi, a short walk from Nagoya-ko Station on the Meijo subway line. It is split into a north building and a south building. The north building holds the big performance stadium and mammal exhibits, with dolphins, belugas and orca - confirm what is on show - while the south building follows the sea from Japan's own waters to the Antarctic, with a Kuroshio-themed tank, penguins and a long run of sharks and sea turtle exhibits. It is mainly a family day out, with a busy schedule of shows and feeding times, and it suits children and adults who like to see large animals up close. Weekends and school holidays are crowded. It is worth a half day if you are in Nagoya with children and the weather is poor, and less so if you have seen Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium. Garden Pier and the harbour sit just outside the gate.
