Island County Linked To The Mainland By Bridges; The Darangi Village Terraced Rice Paddies Are A Place Of Scenic Beauty · Namhae, South Gyeongsang

Namhae is an island county off the south coast of South Gyeongsang, made up mainly of Namhaedo, one of the larger islands of Korea, and the smaller Changseondo, tied to the mainland by bridges instead of ferries. The Namhae bridge of 1973, the first large suspension bridge in the country, crosses from Hadong in the northwest, and the chain of Changseon-Samcheonpo bridges links the east side to Sacheon. The island is mountainous and green, fringed by fishing villages and garlic fields, and its best-known scene is Darangi Village, where more than a hundred narrow terraced rice paddies step down a steep slope to the sea, a designated Place of Scenic Beauty. High on Geumsan, in Hallyeohaesang National Park, the Boriam hermitage is one of the three great prayer sites of the bodhisattva Gwaneum in Korea and a famous place to watch the sunrise. Below it lies the silver sand of Sangju Eunmoraebi beach. The German Village, built for Koreans returning from work in Germany, adds an unexpected touch. There is no railway, so most visitors come by car or by bus from Jinju or Busan.

Darangi Village, Nam-myeon, Namhae, South Gyeongsang, 52437, South Korea

NO OPENING TIME HERE WAS CHECKED. The typical pattern: Darangi Village, the beaches and the coast roads are open at all times. Boriam is open from before dawn for the sunrise to the evening, with the access road and shuttle arrangements changing at busy times. The German Village exhibition hall and cafes open by day, roughly 9 am to 6 pm, with a weekly closing day for the hall; check it. County buses stop running early in the evening. The traps that ruin a day are relying on the rare buses, driving up to Boriam before dawn and finding the upper road closed, reaching Darangi when the paddies are bare, and arriving at the German Village for the festival without a room. Confirm current times before relying on them.
