Narragansett Town Beach and The Towers

Beach · Narragansett, Rhode Island

The main surf beach of the Rhode Island south coast, backed by The Towers — a stone arch spanning Ocean Road that is all that survived of the Gilded Age casino which made Narragansett Pier a fashionable resort before it burned in the early 1900s. The beach has the most dependable surf in the state and is the centre of Rhode Island surfing. It is also, unusually for this coast, a beach that charges a per-person admission to walk onto the sand, on top of parking.

39 Boston Neck Road, Narragansett, Rhode Island, 02882, United States

⚠ THIS BEACH CHARGES A PER-PERSON ADMISSION TO WALK ON THE SAND — roughly $12 each — ON TOP OF PARKING, which runs about $10 Monday to Friday and about $15 at weekends and holidays. On a coast where almost everything else is free this surprises people, so budget it for the whole party before travelling. ⚠ MOST BEACH PARKING IS RESTRICTED TO NARRAGANSETT RESIDENTS; the nonresident option is the West Lot across the street from the South Pavilion, and getting this wrong risks a ticket or a tow. Lifeguards are on duty in season during daylight hours only. OUT OF SEASON THE BEACH IS FREE, OPEN AND ENTIRELY UNGUARDED. The Towers arch stands on a public road, is free at all times, has no car park of its own, and is reachable from free public street parking along Ocean Road.
