National Museum of the Great Lakes

Specialty Museum · Toledo, Ohio

A museum on the Maumee River in Toledo devoted to the shipping, wrecks and industry of the five lakes, with a 617-foot 1911 bulk freighter moored alongside that visitors can climb through. The Col. James M. Schoonmaker was the largest ship on the Great Lakes when she launched and she is preserved as a working laker rather than a display.

1701 Front Street, Toledo, Ohio, 43605, United States

Museum open most days year-round with reduced winter hours. THE SHIP IS SEASONAL and closes for winter — confirm she is open before travelling.
