National Nordic Museum
Specialty Museum · Seattle, Washington
The only museum in the United States devoted to the Nordic countries, and designated the National Nordic Museum by Congress in 2019. It began in 1980 in a disused Ballard schoolhouse, in the neighbourhood Scandinavian fishing families built, and moved in 2018 into a purpose-built hall whose central corridor - a long, narrowing, top-lit 'fjord' - is the best thing in it. The permanent route walks you from Nordic prehistory through emigration to the Pacific Northwest and out into contemporary Nordic design.
2655 NW Market Street, Seattle, Washington, 98107, United States
Generally 10 AM to 5 PM Tuesday to Sunday with a later evening one night a week, and CLOSED MONDAYS. Closed major holidays. Free parking in the museum lot, which is unusual for a Seattle museum and fills at weekends.
