National Railroad Museum

Specialty Museum · Green Bay, Wisconsin

A railway museum on the Fox River in Green Bay, founded in 1956 and recognised by a joint resolution of Congress in 1958 as the National Railroad Museum — a naming recognition rather than any federal funding or Smithsonian affiliation. It holds more than seventy pieces of rolling stock and over a hundred thousand artefacts, and the collection is stronger than its regional visitor numbers suggest: a Union Pacific Big Boy, one of only eight left of the largest steam locomotives ever built, and the British streamlined locomotive Dwight D. Eisenhower with carriages from Eisenhower's wartime command train.

2285 South Broadway, Green Bay, Wisconsin, 54304, United States

Generally Monday to Saturday 9:00 to 17:00 with a late opening to 20:00 on Tuesday, and Sunday 11:00 to 17:00, from April to December. From January to March the museum is CLOSED MONDAYS and keeps shorter hours. Train rides run May to October for a small extra charge. The Polar Express runs roughly 20 November to 13 December, is separately ticketed and capped, and sells out weeks ahead.
