National Route 66 Museum

Elk City Museum Complex: The National Route 66 Museum Plus The National Transportation, Old Town, Farm And Ranch And Blacksmith Museums · Elk City, Oklahoma

A museum complex on the western Oklahoma stretch of Route 66 at Elk City, built around the road's whole 2,448 miles from Chicago to Santa Monica, with a gallery for each of the eight states it crossed and a giant Route 66 shield and pink Cadillac outside for photographs. It shares a site with four more museums under one ticket: the National Transportation Museum, the Old Town Museum in an 1890s-style Victorian house, the Farm and Ranch Museum with implements, a barn and a re-created main street, and the Blacksmith Museum. Together they cover western Oklahoma settlement, ranching and the road that carried Dust Bowl migrants west in the 1930s. Elk City sits on Interstate 40 where old alignments of 66 run alongside, which makes this a natural stop between Oklahoma City and Amarillo.
