National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa
Pilgrimage · Doylestown, Pennsylvania
A Polish national shrine on a Bucks County hilltop, founded by the Pauline Fathers in 1955 for Polish Americans who could not travel to the original at Jasna Gora under Communist rule, and built out into a large modernist church dedicated in 1966. It holds a copy of the Black Madonna, the icon that is the central devotional image of Polish Catholicism, and it functions as the American Czestochowa — a working pilgrimage site rather than a monument, drawing congregations from across the country on Polish feast days and holding a cemetery where a great many Polish Americans chose to be buried.
654 Ferry Road, Doylestown, Pennsylvania, 18901, United States
Open daily and FREE, generally from morning to late afternoon, with the shrine church accessible outside service times. Daily Mass in English and Polish. Sunday mornings and Polish feast days are busy and are not good visiting times. The Polish American Festival runs over several weekends in late summer with a modest admission.
