Natural History Museum of Utah

Natural History · Salt Lake City, Utah

The state natural history museum, in the Rio Tinto Center on the University of Utah campus in the foothills above Salt Lake City — a copper-clad building terraced into the hillside that is worth seeing in its own right. Its strength is dinosaurs, and specifically Utah's: the state's rock has produced an extraordinary share of the world's known Late Jurassic and Cretaceous species, and much of what is on display was dug within a few hours' drive.

301 Wakara Way, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84108, United States

Open daily on published hours, with admission typically about $20-$25 for an adult and reductions for children, students and seniors; University of Utah students and members enter free. ⚠ PARKING IS CHARGED SEPARATELY at the museum lot and is not included in the ticket — budget it, or take light rail from downtown and the campus shuttle instead. Docent-led tours are included with admission and run on a published schedule. ⚠ CHECK THE MUSEUM'S OWN VISIT PAGE FOR FREE AND REDUCED-ADMISSION PROGRAMMES, which it runs periodically rather than as a standing weekly free day. Busiest on weekday mornings in term time, when school groups fill the galleries. The Sky terrace and its view over the Salt Lake valley are free and accessible from outside the building.
