Nemacolin
Resort Area · Farmington, Pennsylvania
Two thousand acres in the Laurel Highlands built up by the Hardy family, owners of the 84 Lumber company, into a resort that is deliberately difficult to categorise — a French-style chateau hotel and a modernist lodge on the same property, two championship golf courses, a ski hill, a shooting academy, an off-road driving school, a wildlife habitat holding tigers and bears, and an art collection of several thousand pieces hung through the public rooms. It sits ten minutes from Fort Necessity and half an hour from Fallingwater, which makes it the place a certain kind of visitor to western Pennsylvania stays.
1001 Lafayette Drive, Farmington, Pennsylvania, 15437, United States
A resort, open year round. Lodging, restaurants and the spa operate daily; golf runs roughly April to October; the ski hill and tubing run in winter subject to conditions; the wildlife habitat and outdoor activity programmes are seasonal. Most activities are separately charged and several require booking ahead. The property is private — non-guests should ring before travelling.
