New England Aquarium
Aquarium · Boston, Massachusetts
An aquarium on Central Wharf in Boston Harbor, opened in 1969 and built around a four-storey cylindrical tank holding a Caribbean coral reef, with a spiral walkway wrapping the outside of it so you descend past the same water again and again and see it differently each time. A penguin colony lives at the base. Its most famous resident is Myrtle, a green sea turtle who has been here since 1970, weighs around five hundred pounds, and is genuinely a Boston celebrity.
