New Orleans City Park

City Park · New Orleans, Louisiana

Thirteen hundred acres in Mid-City, which makes it larger than Central Park, and it holds the largest stand of mature live oaks anywhere in the world — some of them six or seven hundred years old and standing when the Spanish arrived. It also holds the New Orleans Museum of Art, a sculpture garden that is free, a 1906 wooden carousel still turning, and a children's storybook park that has been there since the 1950s. In 2005 about ninety-five per cent of it was under water for weeks, and a great deal of what you see was brought back by volunteers.

1 Palm Drive, New Orleans, Louisiana, 70124, United States

The New Orleans Museum of Art charges admission and is closed Mondays. Carousel Gardens and Storyland charge small separate admissions and run seasonal and weekend-weighted hours. Celebration in the Oaks lights a large part of the park from late November and is separately ticketed.
