New York Aquarium

Aquarium · Brooklyn, New York

The OLDEST CONTINUOUSLY OPERATING AQUARIUM IN THE UNITED STATES, founded 1896 at Castle Clinton in Battery Park and moved to the Coney Island boardwalk in 1957. Run by the Wildlife Conservation Society, it was flooded and gutted by Hurricane Sandy in 2012 and spent years rebuilding — the OCEAN WONDERS: SHARKS! building, opened 2018, is the result and holds 500,000 gallons with a coral reef tunnel.
