Casino Resort On The Las Vegas Strip Built As A Manhattan Skyline, With The Big Apple Coaster · Las Vegas, Nevada

New York-New York is an MGM-owned casino resort at the south end of the Las Vegas Strip, on the corner of Tropicana Avenue, opened in 1997 and built as a compressed Manhattan skyline. Its hotel towers are dressed as reduced-scale copies of the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building and other landmarks, with a copy of the Brooklyn Bridge along the sidewalk and a Statue of Liberty in front. Around and through the towers runs the Big Apple Coaster, a steel roller coaster with taxi-cab cars, a steep drop, a loop and a barrel roll, which is the resort's best-known thrill. Inside, the casino and the Village Eateries food court copy Greenwich Village streets and brownstones. After September 11, 2001, visitors turned the Statue of Liberty into a makeshift memorial. Today the resort also fronts the Park, the promenade to T-Mobile Arena, and holds Hershey's Chocolate World and a Cirque du Soleil theater. Give it an hour or two for the facade, the bridge, a coaster ride and a cheap meal.

NO OPENING TIME HERE WAS CHECKED. The typical pattern: the casino is open 24 hours every day; the Big Apple Coaster usually runs from late morning to late night, closing in high wind, rain and for maintenance; the Village Eateries counters keep long hours into the night, with some counters closing earlier; Hershey's Chocolate World opens from morning to late evening; Mad Apple plays evening shows on most but not all nights. The traps that ruin a day are queueing for the coaster with loose items in your pockets, arriving on a windy day when it is shut, walking into a Golden Knights game night by accident, booking Mad Apple as a family show, and looking for the Tropicana or a monorail stop at the corner. Confirm current times before relying on them.
