New York Transit Museum

Specialty Museum · Brooklyn, New York

⚠ THE MUSEUM IS IN A DECOMMISSIONED SUBWAY STATION. The Court Street station opened in 1936, closed in 1946 as a failure, and became the New York Transit Museum in 1976 — which means you go down a real subway staircase off a Brooklyn Heights street corner and find twenty vintage subway and elevated cars standing on the original platform tracks.

Boerum Place at Schermerhorn Street, Brooklyn, New York, 11201, United States

⚠ CLOSED MONDAYS, historically — check before travelling. Generally open Tuesday to Sunday on a daytime schedule. Admission is roughly ten dollars, among the cheapest in New York City. ⚠ NOSTALGIA TRAIN RIDES, which run the museum's vintage cars on the live subway system, and BEHIND-THE-SCENES SYSTEM TOURS are separately ticketed, run on specific dates and SELL OUT — check the calendar. ⚠ THE GRAND CENTRAL GALLERY ANNEX in Manhattan is FREE and is a different, much smaller site. ⚠ HOURS AND PRICES NOT VERIFIED FOR THIS FILE.
