Newark Earthworks

Archaeological · Heath, Ohio

The largest set of geometric earthworks anywhere in the world, built two thousand years ago across four square miles of what is now Newark and Heath. Two components survive — the Great Circle, a bank and interior ditch enclosing more than twenty acres, and the Octagon, whose walls align to the northernmost moonrise of an eighteen-and-a-half-year lunar cycle.

455 Hebron Road, Heath, Ohio, 43056, United States

The Great Circle grounds are open daily, generally dawn to dusk, free. The museum keeps shorter seasonal hours. OCTAGON ACCESS ARRANGEMENTS CHANGED RECENTLY — verify current public access before travelling.
