Newport Historic Bayfront
Promenade · Newport, Oregon
The working waterfront on Yaquina Bay at Newport, and one of the few places on the Oregon coast where the fishing fleet and the visitors occupy the same few hundred yards. Trawlers and crab boats unload at the docks, processors run behind them, and the smell and noise are part of it. Sea lions haul out on the bay docks in large numbers and are audible from several streets away. It is not tidied up, which is precisely why it is worth walking.
Southwest Bay Boulevard, Newport, Oregon, 97365, United States
The waterfront is a public street, open at all times and FREE to walk. Shops, markets and restaurants keep their own hours and several close midweek out of season. ⚠ SEA LIONS OCCUPY THE BAY DOCKS FROM ROUGHLY AUGUST TO MAY AND ARE LARGELY ABSENT IN HIGH SUMMER, which is the opposite of what most visitors assume. The fishing fleet works early, so morning is when the waterfront is genuinely working. This is an active industrial port with vehicle traffic and narrow pavements.
