Niagara Falls State Park

Waterfall · Niagara Falls, New York

The OLDEST STATE PARK IN THE UNITED STATES, opened in 1885 after a twenty-year campaign to buy back a shoreline that had been fenced off by private operators charging for a glimpse, and landscaped by Frederick Law Olmsted, who also laid out Central Park. It covers the American shore of the Niagara River at the falls — American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Goat Island, and the near edge of Horseshoe Falls, which is mostly in Ontario.
