The busiest of Chicago's twenty-odd lakefront beaches, at the eastern edge of Lincoln Park, with a two-storey beach house built in the shape of an ocean liner and a view south along the water to the whole downtown skyline. It carries dozens of volleyball courts, a chess pavilion and a rooftop bar, and it is free — which is the thing about Chicago's lakefront that visitors from coastal cities find hardest to believe.

Beach open year-round, free. GUARDED AND SWIMMING PERMITTED MEMORIAL DAY TO LABOR DAY ONLY, roughly 11 AM - 7 PM; swimming is prohibited outside that window.
