North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences
Natural History · Raleigh, North Carolina
The largest natural history museum in the south-eastern United States, the oldest museum in North Carolina, and free. It occupies two connected buildings on Jones Street in downtown Raleigh and holds the sort of collection that state institutions built up over a century and a half - including the Terror of the South, an Acrocanthosaurus, and the only real fossil of a Thescelosaurus heart tissue claim ever mounted. The Nature Research Center puts working scientists behind glass so you can watch the actual research happening.
