North Dakota Museum of Art
Art Museum · Grand Forks, North Dakota
The state's official art museum, in a converted 1907 gymnasium on the University of North Dakota campus in Grand Forks, showing contemporary art with a seriousness that surprises people who expect a regional collection. It has a national reputation for commissioning and touring difficult, politically engaged exhibitions - most notably a long-running memorial project on the Vietnam War - and for a Northern Plains Indian art programme. Admission is free.
