Noshaq Peak
Mountain Peak · Qazi Deh, Badakhshan
Afghanistan's highest mountain at 7,492 metres and the second-highest summit of the Hindu Kush, standing on the Pakistan border at the head of the Wakhan Corridor. First climbed in 1960 by a Japanese expedition, it saw its first Afghan ascent in 2009 — a national moment — and today receives a handful of expedition teams a year, approached from Qazi Deh village near Ishkashim over roughly a week of trekking to base camp. It is a serious high-altitude mountaineering objective in one of the most isolated corners of Asia, not a trekking peak.
