Notre Dame Provincial Park
A Bay Side Park With A Campground, A Beach On Indian Cove, Hiking Trails, A Short Beothuk Interpretation And Views Over Notre Dame Bay. A Summer Stop Near Lewisporte, The Ferry Port For Labrador · Lewisporte, Newfoundland and Labrador
Notre Dame Provincial Park occupies a forested shoreline on the north coast of Newfoundland, a few kilometres from the town of Lewisporte and close to the Trans-Canada Highway, on the edge of Notre Dame Bay (confirm the distances). The bay is dotted with islands, fishing harbours and old outport villages, and the park looks across it from tall spruce and fir, with a beach in a sheltered cove, a campground, picnic areas and a small network of hiking trails. A short display tells the story of the Beothuk, the Indigenous people who once lived and hunted along this coast, and the nearby interpretation centre at Boyds Cove adds more. Lewisporte is the ferry port for Labrador, so the park draws travellers waiting for a crossing as well as local families. The water is cold, fog and wind are common, and icebergs may drift down the coast in spring. It is a quiet, leafy base for exploring Twillingate, Fogo Island and the bay.

Notre Dame operates as a seasonal provincial park, with the gate, campground and washrooms normally open from about late May or June to early September, so confirm the exact dates with Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Parks before you travel. The access road may be gated outside the season, and trails are then walked at your own risk. Day use follows daylight, and the campground office keeps limited hours, so travellers on a late ferry should arrange check-in ahead. Fog, rain and autumn storms can close the beach access without notice, and the ferry timetable to Labrador changes by season (confirm).
