Oak Mountain State Park

Alabama State Park · Pelham, Alabama

Alabama's largest state park, just under ten thousand acres on a double ridge south of Birmingham, and effectively the city's back garden. It carries Peavine Falls at the head of a gorge, two lakes, a golf course, a demonstration farm and one of the better mountain bike networks in the South. The Alabama Wildlife Center sits inside it, rehabilitating raptors, with a treetop boardwalk that lets you look birds of prey in the eye.

200 Terrace Drive, Pelham, Alabama, 35124, United States

Open daily year round for a small day-use fee, generally 7 AM to sunset, with the campground and cabins open to registered guests around the clock. Mountain bike trails close after heavy rain — check the park trail status. The Alabama Wildlife Center keeps its own hours and admission.
