Ocala National Forest
National Forest · Umatilla, Florida
Six hundred thousand acres between the Ocklawaha and the St. Johns, established in 1908 as the first national forest east of the Mississippi and still the southernmost in the continental United States. It holds the largest contiguous sand pine scrub forest in the world — a desert-adapted ecosystem that burns and regenerates — and inside it sit four first-magnitude springs, each a separate destination.
40929 State Road 19, Umatilla, Florida, 32784, United States
Forest open year-round. Individual recreation areas keep their own seasonal hours and close when full.
