Ocean Beach
Beach · San Francisco, California
Three and a half miles of sand along the entire western edge of San Francisco, wild, wind-scoured and almost always empty. It has some of the most dangerous rip currents in the United States and people drown here with grim regularity — which is exactly why it stays empty, and why the locals who love it come to walk, surf and burn driftwood rather than swim.
