Oconaluftee Visitor Center and Mountain Farm Museum

Open Air Museum · Cherokee, North Carolina

North Carolina's main entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, at the bottom of the Oconaluftee valley where the Newfound Gap road comes down off the ridge. Beside the visitor centre stands the Mountain Farm Museum - a collection of log farm buildings gathered from across the park in the 1950s and assembled into a single working homestead, one of the largest such collections of original log structures in the country. Elk graze the field in front of it most mornings and evenings.
