Oconee State Park

State Park · Mountain Rest, South Carolina

A Civilian Conservation Corps park from 1935 in the far north-western corner of the state, whose fifteen cabins, superintendent house, shelters, swimming lake and bathhouse were listed on the National Register in 2004. It is the southern terminus of the seventy-seven-mile Foothills Trail and the western end of the Oconee Passage of the Palmetto Trail, which makes a modest mountain park the front door to the longest walk in South Carolina. The cabins deliberately have no televisions.
