Odsherred is the hook-shaped corner of north-west Zealand, roughly 90-100 km from Copenhagen, and its landscape was built by the last ice age. Ice lobes pushed up long curving moraine ridges, the Odsherred arcs, left hills such as Vejrhoj, at roughly 121 m among the highest points on Zealand, and shaped lagoons, spits and beaches along Sejero Bay and the Kattegat. That story earned Odsherred status as a UNESCO Global Geopark, since about 2014 - note that a Geopark is a different programme from a World Heritage Site. Visitors come for easy hill walks with big views, long sandy beaches, the drained Lammefjord flatlands famous for carrots and potatoes, the art museum in Nykobing Sjaelland with its painters of the coast, the long spit of Sjaellands Odde, and the old fishing harbour of Rorvig with its ferry to Hundested. It is also Denmark's summer-house country. The honest caveat: there is no single headline sight, the hills are gentle rather than dramatic, and it is best explored by car or bike.

The Geopark is an open landscape with no gate or ticket: hills, beaches, trails and harbours are free and open all year at any hour. Museums, the ferry and many cafes and shops keep seasonal hours - daily and long in summer, reduced or weekends only from autumn to spring, and some kiosks close entirely in winter; check the current schedule. By train from Copenhagen go to Holbaek (roughly 1 hour), then take the local Odsherred line to Nykobing Sjaelland (roughly 50 minutes); a local bus runs on to Rorvig - confirm routes. By car it is roughly 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes via Route 21. Nothing needs booking except summer houses and hotels in July.
