Okemo Mountain Resort

Ski Resort · Ludlow, Vermont

A large, unfashionably well-run ski mountain above the village of Ludlow in south-central Vermont, with six hundred and sixty-seven acres of trail and glade, a hundred and twenty-one named runs and a two-thousand-two-hundred-foot vertical drop - the biggest in southern Vermont. Okemo has spent decades building a reputation as the family mountain of the east: a third of the terrain is novice, the grooming is relentless, and the Jackson Gore side carries the harder skiing and a year-round base with pools and a fitness centre. It is not the wildest mountain in the state and it does not pretend to be, which is exactly why people keep bringing their children back to it.

77 Okemo Ridge Road, Ludlow, Vermont, 05149, United States

A large year-round resort above Ludlow, open in winter for skiing and in summer for Jackson Gore's warm-weather operations - ⚠ THOSE SUMMER OPERATIONS RUN ON THEIR OWN SCHEDULE, so check before assuming anything is open outside ski season. ⚠ LIFT TICKETS ARE SUBSTANTIALLY CHEAPER BOUGHT WELL AHEAD ONLINE than at the window on the day, and the gap is large. Free parking at the base areas, with shuttles from outer lots on busy days. ⚠ SCHOOL HOLIDAY WEEKS AND SATURDAYS IN JANUARY AND FEBRUARY ARE THE BUSIEST DAYS - Okemo's family reputation is exactly why - so go midweek and book lodging months ahead for holidays. LESSONS AND CHILDREN'S PROGRAMMES should be reserved rather than walked up to. ⚠ NOTHING IS BUNDLED: tickets, lodging, rentals, lessons and food are separate, though lodging-plus-lift packages usually beat booking separately, and ⚠ CONFIRM WHETHER THE SPRING HOUSE POOLS AT JACKSON GORE ARE INCLUDED with your booking. ⚠ LUDLOW VILLAGE AT THE FOOT IS THE CHEAPER PLACE TO STAY. Winter tyres or all-wheel drive are the sensible minimum on the approach.
