Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden

Oklahoma City Zoo And Botanical Garden; Opened 1902, Accredited Botanical Garden · Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Oklahoma's largest zoo, opened in 1902 in Lincoln Park and now spread over about 120 acres of exhibits and accredited botanical gardens on the city's north-east side. It holds around 1,900 animals: Asian elephants in a large Sanctuary Asia habitat with a bathing pool, lions and giraffes in Kirkpatrick Plaza's African savanna, a Great EscApe with gorillas, chimpanzees and orangutans in forested yards, an Oklahoma Trails section devoted to the state's own black bears, bison, bobcats and river otters, and the Aquaticus building for sea lions and sharks. The gardens are accredited in their own right, with a rose garden, a conservatory and mature trees that give real shade in July. A train, a carousel and a stingray touch pool cost a little extra, and the zoo sits next to Science Museum Oklahoma and the National Cowboy museum.
