Old Salem Museums & Gardens
Open Air Museum · Winston-Salem, North Carolina
A Moravian town founded in 1766 and still standing, restored from 1950 onward and now interpreted as a living-history museum inside a real Winston-Salem neighbourhood where people live. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1966 and expanded fifty years later. The Moravians kept extraordinary records, which is why the restoration is unusually accurate - and why the trades demonstrated here, from the gunsmith to the bakery, are documented rather than invented.
