Old Trail Town
Private Museum On The Original Cody Townsite · Cody, Wyoming
About two dozen frontier buildings gathered from across the region and reassembled on the site of the original 1895 Cody townsite, west of today's town, filled with wagons, saddles and Native American artefacts. Among the cabins is one said to have been used by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid's Hole-in-the-Wall Gang, and in its small cemetery lies the mountain man Jeremiah Johnson, whose legend inspired a Hollywood film, reburied here in 1974. Open in summer. Bob Edgar began collecting the buildings in 1967, moving cabins and stores from across Wyoming and Montana to the original Cody townsite west of town. In 1974 the mountain man Jeremiah Johnson was reburied here, with the actor Robert Redford among the pallbearers. It sits beside Stampede Park, home of the Cody Nite Rodeo.
