Old World Wisconsin
Open Air Museum · Eagle, Wisconsin
An outdoor living-history museum in the Kettle Moraine at Eagle, opened in 1976 and run by the Wisconsin Historical Society, made up of more than sixty original 19th-century buildings moved here from across the state and reassembled as working immigrant farmsteads — German, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, Polish, African American — plus an 1880s crossroads village. Costumed interpreters work the farms as they were worked, with heritage crops in the ground and heritage breeds in the yards. It is widely described as the largest outdoor museum of rural life in the United States, though the Society itself does not make that claim.
