Ordu is a tidy Black Sea city of around 150,000 people, set between the sea and steep hazelnut slopes, and Boztepe is the hill above it where most visitors go to see the view. A cable car climbs from the edge of the city to the top, where a viewing terrace, tea gardens and picnic lawns look out over the roofs, the harbour, the long curve of the bay and the blue band of the sea beyond (confirm). On a clear day the panorama is wide and calm, and on a misty day the clouds drift through the pines and the city appears and disappears below. Ordu is one of the main hazelnut cities of Turkiye, and from late summer the orchards and drying yards are busy with the harvest. The seafront below has a lively promenade, and the hills behind hide plateau villages that are cool in summer. It is a green, relaxed stop on the coast road, with a gentler pace and calmer streets than the larger cities to the east and west.
