Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve
National Monument · Cave Junction, Oregon
A 4,554-acre monument in the Siskiyou Mountains of southern Oregon featuring a rare and complex marble cave system. Known as the "Marble Halls of Oregon," the caves were formed by groundwater dissolving marble rock over millions of years. Above ground, the preserve protects old-growth coniferous forests and the historic, rustic Chateau at the Oregon Caves.

⚠ THE CAVE CAN ONLY BE SEEN ON A TICKETED RANGER-GUIDED TOUR, and the tours are seasonal - generally late spring through early autumn, with no cave tours at all in winter. The visitor centre and the surface trails keep their own seasonal hours. ⚠ THE ACCESS ROAD IS THE OTHER HALF OF THE PLANNING PROBLEM: Oregon Route 46 climbs 20 miles from Cave Junction and the last stretch is narrow and winding with tight curves, NOT SUITABLE FOR VEHICLES OVER 32 FEET OR FOR TRAILERS, and it takes far longer than the distance suggests. Check tour availability before making the drive.
