Orpheum Theatre

National Register Of Historic Places · Wichita, Kansas

A 1922 movie palace in downtown Wichita designed by John Eberson in the atmospheric style he invented — the auditorium is built as a Spanish courtyard open to a night sky, with a ceiling painted deep blue, pinpoint stars set into it and a projector that drifts clouds across it. Very few Eberson atmospherics survive anywhere. Wichita nearly lost this one, and a restoration that has run for decades has brought it back a room at a time while it keeps working as a cinema and concert hall.

200 North Broadway, Wichita, Kansas, 67202, United States

Open for scheduled events only — films, concerts, comedy and touring shows, with no casual daytime access. Tickets through the theatre's own box office. Building tours run occasionally and are announced separately. Check the calendar before planning a visit around it.
