Orwell Corner Historic Village
A Restored Crossroads Village Of 1895 With A General Store, Post Office, Blacksmith'S Shop And Farm Buildings, Staffed In Summer By Costumed Interpreters, And Known For Its Weekly Ceilidh Nights Of Fiddle Music In The Old Community Hall. A Quiet Heritage Stop East Of Charlottetown, With The Sir Andrew Macphail Homestead Nearby · Orwell, Prince Edward Island
Orwell Corner Historic Village is a restored crossroads settlement of the 1890s in eastern Prince Edward Island, about half an hour from Charlottetown. A general store, post office, blacksmith's shop, farmhouse, barn and community hall stand around a small intersection, and in summer staff in period clothes work in them, bake, tend animals and answer questions about the life of a Scottish farming district a century and a quarter ago. The village feels like a real place rather than a display, partly because the hall is still used for evening ceilidhs, where local fiddlers, pianists and step dancers play for audiences of visitors and neighbours. The Sir Andrew Macphail Homestead, the childhood home of the writer and doctor, lies nearby, and the road continues toward Wood Islands and the Nova Scotia ferry. Seasons and ceilidh nights change from year to year, so confirm dates, times and prices before you go.

The village is commonly open from about late June to early September, perhaps with daily hours from mid-morning to late afternoon, with shorter hours or weekends only in the shoulder season (confirm). Costumed interpreters and demonstrations follow the same season. The ceilidh in the community hall usually runs on one or two evenings each week in July and August, starting in the evening, and may sell out in peak weeks. Outside the season the site is closed to the public, and the roadside views remain free. Call or check the official page before driving out.
