Over-the-Rhine

Heritage District · Cincinnati, Ohio

A district of nineteenth-century Italianate tenements north of downtown Cincinnati, built by German immigrants who crossed the canal that locals nicknamed the Rhine to get home from work. It holds one of the largest and most intact collections of Italianate architecture anywhere in the United States, and it has gone from near-total abandonment to one of the most heavily redeveloped neighbourhoods in the Midwest.

Vine Street, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45202, United States

A public neighbourhood, open at all times. Shops and restaurants keep their own hours; the district is liveliest from late afternoon into the evening and on Saturday mornings.
