Paducah

UNESCO Creative City Of Crafts And Folk Art · Paducah, Kentucky

A river town at the confluence of the Ohio and the Tennessee in far western Kentucky, and a UNESCO Creative City of Crafts and Folk Art — the first city in the United States to be given that designation. It earned it the hard way: in the early 2000s the city offered artists cheap houses to move into a decayed neighbourhood, and the Lower Town Arts District is what came of it. The National Quilt Museum is here, more than fifty painted panels run along the Ohio River floodwall, and one week each April the international quilt world arrives and the town triples in size.

100 Broadway, Paducah, Kentucky, 42001, United States

Town open at all hours; the Floodwall Murals and the riverfront walk are free and always accessible except when the floodgates are closed in high water. The visitor centre, the National Quilt Museum and the River Discovery Center keep their own hours and several close on Sundays and Mondays. Lower Town galleries open irregularly — check at the visitor centre on the day.
